The Iron Maw of Vhar-Kolreth
By Krishna Prasanth Guttikonda

In the forsaken wasteland of Kolreth’s Reach, where the stars have long since abandoned the sky and the air reeks of rust and old blood, an ancient and monstrous machine stirs beneath the earth. It is the Iron Maw — a colossal, sentient engine of destruction, forged in a forgotten era to purge unworthy bloodlines from history. Buried for centuries beneath molten glass in the ruined city of Vhar-Kolreth, the Maw has slept. But now, the cracks in its prison widen, and the darkness begins to awaken.

The Maw hungers for more than flesh. It seeks to consume memory itself — the names, identities, and very histories of those caught in its terrible path. Those devoured by the Maw cease to have ever existed. Their names erased from the world, their lives forgotten by all who knew them.

Amidst a brutal winter famine that threatens to destroy her people, the high priestess Meyrane Drossveil breaks ancient seals in search of power to save her city. But in her desperation, she unchains the Maw from its prison — setting in motion an irreversible chain of events. As the Maw stirs, it begins to erase the very fabric of history itself, leaving only a blank, cold void in its wake.

In this broken world steps Tharyn Korrat, a soldier long abandoned and forgotten by history, carrying with him a blade forged from the very teeth of the Maw. Tharyn is the last survivor of a bloodline consumed by the Maw generations ago, and now he is its greatest weapon. But Tharyn is more than a simple soldier. He has witnessed the horrors of the Maw’s destructive power, and he is determined to stop it — no matter the cost.

Tharyn is joined by Yren Hollowrift, a cursed hunter immune to the Maw’s power of erasure, and Korin Vasker, a tormented Memory-Warder who knows all too well the truth of his own family’s role in awakening the ancient evil. Together, they must face not only the terror of the Maw, but also the lingering weight of their pasts — and the difficult choices that come with confronting the horrors of history and memory.

As the city of Vhar-Kolreth collapses under the Maw’s relentless assault, alliances shift, betrayals are made, and the line between salvation and damnation becomes ever harder to discern. Tharyn’s quest for vengeance evolves into a desperate battle for redemption, and for a chance to reclaim what has been lost to the void.

In The Iron Maw of Vhar-Kolreth, readers are thrust into a world where memory itself is a weapon, and where survival often requires sacrifice. As the characters struggle to reclaim their names, they must also confront the age-old question: What is the price of forgetting, and what is the cost of remembering?

This dark fantasy novel weaves together intricate world-building, morally complex characters, and a gripping, high-stakes narrative that challenges readers to explore the fragility of identity, the tyranny of erasure, and the power of memory in shaping the future. The sprawling, ruined city of Vhar-Kolreth and the mysterious, terrifying presence of the Maw are brought to life in vivid detail, creating a haunting atmosphere that lingers long after the final page is turned.
